Brisbane Workshop, Sept 2026
There are photographs you take.
And then there are photographs that wait for you.
This workshop is about the second kind.
Over three days in Brisbane, we will spend time inside a small number of carefully selected houses I have previously photographed.
These are not public buildings. They are lived-in, considered pieces of architecture. Places where light has been thought about. Places that reveal themselves slowly. We will meet the architects and home owners.
We will return to them not to replicate images, but to understand how they were made — and more importantly, how they might be seen differently.
This is not a technical workshop.
We won’t spend time on gear, settings, or presets.
Instead, we will focus on:
• how to read a building
• how to recognise when a photograph is present
• how to wait
• how to leave things out
• how to trust your eye
We will stand in the exact locations where photographs were made.
We will look at the final images.
We will talk about what was happening just before — and just after.
And then you will make your own photographs.
There will be exercises, but they are simple.
Stand still.
Look longer.
Take fewer photographs.
We will work as a small group.
There is time for conversation, for questions, for uncertainty.
Each participant will share a small number of images for critique. The focus is not on what is right or wrong, but on what feels true.
On the first evening, I will give a public talk.
You are welcome to bring a friend, a colleague, or a client. It will set the tone for the days that follow.
This workshop is for photographers, architects, and anyone interested in how we experience space.
It is not about becoming a better photographer.
It is about becoming more aware of how you see.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the workshops so small?
I have taught many workshops in my career and it’s nearly impossible to teach adequately as soon as class sizes get larger than eight people. Due to the specialised equipment and wide open spaces required to have everyone not only learn about, but also practice, architectural photography, I keep it small and intimate so that attendees not only get a chance to make amazing photos, but also have plenty of time interfacing with me.
Can I bring my significant other, a friend or family?
Unfortunately, I cannot accommodate guests beyond the workshop participants.
