My process is broken down into three phases: before the shoot, on the day, and after the shoot.
To give you a sense of what the experience of working together will be like, these stages are outlined below.
1. Pre-Production
Anything and everything we can do to make the shoot day go smoothly and efficiently will be handled during this step, including:
– pre-shoot phone conversations or meetings
– advanced scouts (if applicable)
– creating a contact list
– contingency planning
– addressing any logistical concerns.
During this time, I will also send the terms which must be agreed to prior to shoot, as well as a deposit invoice for 50% retainer payment.
2. Shoot Day
After arriving at the location, greetings, walkthrough, and getting settled in and set up, the shoot will begin.
While I will be photographing as much as I can during the shoot day, I may spend anywhere up to 60 minutes on each shot when needed.
I may move furniture and adjust or move everyday items to enhance the décor for the best possible images.
3. Post-Production
This is where the entire pre-production and shoot day process culminates into final images.
It is common for the post-production part of an image to take as long, or longer, than the shooting process. Up to seven business days should be allowed for completion of this part of the process.
The photographs are culled, processed, and delivered in a final proof-sheet for the client to make selections from.
Processing typically includes colour corrections, contrast and exposure adjustments, retouching distractions and advanced Photoshop techniques to create the ambient look I am known for.
A separate quote can be provided for any extra processing following the proof-sheet stage.
Culture
The buildings don’t travel but the photographs do.
Decades of experience has shown me that it’s VERY important to partner with a photographer that can convey how it feels to be there.
You’ve worked hard, sometimes years, on this project, creating your client’s long held dream and making it real.
The intention is to capture how it looks, as well as how it feels to be there: the essence or spirit of the project and its environment, and to explore what opportunities can come from our collaboration.
Spending a day with your project is the way I create my best work.
Transparency is integral to a successful outcome, from the beginning of our relationship onwards.
The information below allows you to review processes, approach, rates and pricing that has been honed over the years.
It enables me to produce the internationally successful level of photography I’m known for, and my clients relish.
Approach
I show up early and I leave late.
No stone (slab of schist, tiled paver) is left unturned exploring the sense of place I feel the first time I reach a location.
This allows me to be agile and shoot as much as I can during the day, discovering moments and chance encounters with light, weather variations, and people.
Spending this time gives me the flexibility to shoot as many images as we need to get the job done properly.
It also gives you the opportunity to select the final images you want processed that you feel best represent your project.
I can also advise on what images I think really captured the project on the day.
