Simon Devitt Prize for Photography for Creative Arts & Industries students.

The Simon Devitt Prize for Photography celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2018, and is held annually in recognition of the most compelling photograph taken by a full-time student of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries.

Alongside the previous winners, this year’s exhibition showcases unique photographic perspectives from some of New Zealand’s emerging creative minds with diverse backgrounds in fine art, music, dance, architecture, urban planning and urban design.

This year’s theme is “Mythical” which has been interpreted in many thoughtful and illuminating ways by the exhibiting artists. All the photographs exhibited showcase unique photographic perspectives form some of New Zealand’s emerging creative minds with diverse backgrounds in fine art, music, dance, architecture, urban planning and urban design.

The winning entry by Hannah Davey (BFA): The Rising received the Simon Devitt Prize for Photography 2018 comprising a trophy, NZ$1,000 and a Canon camera.

With huge thanks to our valued sponsors: Simon Devitt Photographer, Canon NZ and John Leech Framing Workshop, supported by Auckland Festival of Photography Satellite Category.

Finalists for 2018 are exhibited at the Gus Fisher Gallery 19 June – 28 July 2018 as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography Programme.
